May 2012 Charleston South Carolina Events

Happy May Everyone!
Charleston, South Carolina is getting ready for a month full of exciting local events. Whether you are a member of the local community or visiting from out of town, we encourage you to attend as many of these Charleston events as possible! Featured Events
The NASCAR Pit Stop Tour is roaring into Triple-T Freight-liner, Sterling, Western Star of Charleston on May 15, 2012. Charleston Museums
Join us at Carolina's Oldest Public Building on May 11 - 13, 2012 for the Colonial-Maritime Weekend. Visit The Powder Magazine and the tall ship HMS Bounty (Charleston Maritime Center) and learn more about Charleston's rich colonial-maritime history. There will be a book signing / lecture and a special theatrical performance of The Gentleman Pirate! 

Family Friendly Events
Join Charleston Pirate Tours every Saturday for a special Saturday Storytelling event at the Powder Magazine Museum! Noted pirate historian, Eric Lavender, brings Charleston's Golden Age of Piracy to life with stories of Blackbeard's most notorious exploit, the blockade of Charles Towne, the capture and execution of Stede Bonnet, and much more! Does your family enjoy fishing? Get ready for the Summer Pier Kickoff Tournament at Folly Beach Fishing Pier on May 19th! Prizes will be awarded for Adult Angler, Lady Angler, Youth Angler (12 and under), Senior Angler (60 and over) and more! 

Pet Friendly Events
James Island County Park dog park is hosting Yappy Hour on May 17th from 4:00PM to sunset. There will be live music and beverages available for purchase. Just pay the regular gate admission upon arrival and this pet friendly event is free! 

Sports & Outdoor Adventures
The Atlantic Cup is the only dedicated Class40 sailing race in the United States. From Charleston, competitors will race double-handed to New York City. There will be a 4 - 5 day stop over in New York before the race restarts May 19th and competitors sprint to Newport, Rhode Island. Boats will be available for viewing 9AM - 5PM at City Marina from May 7 - 10th. Come check them out! Looking to participate in an outdoor adventure? Bring your horse, camping gear, and supplies for two nights of camping and trail riding on 20 miles of beautiful, wooded trails on the Mullet Hall Open Trail Ride. Check out the website for additional information about this event scheduled for May 25 - 27th!

Theatre
If you love the theatre, Charleston is the place for you! There are several local theatres in the Charleston area and a wide variety of shows and performances scheduled for May 2012. Upcoming shows include Dinner With Friends, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Charley's Aunt, God of Carnage, and more.
