On Wednesday, December 31st, the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier in Mount Pleasant, SC will not be occupied with the usual wanderers exploring a decommissioned ship. Instead, the venue will be transformed into the third annual Yorktown Countdown, Charleston’s largest New Year’s Celebration. In partnership with the United States Marine Corps Reserve and WCBD News 2, the South Carolina Aquarium will be accepting Toys for Tots donations through December 20th. Bring a new, unopened and unwrapped toy to the Aquarium and receive $5 off your general admission ticket. Donated toys will be collected and distributed to children in need throughout the Lowcountry this holiday season.

Christmas Parade and Festival

The Christmas Festival includes a Holiday Market with children’s activities, craft and food vendors, and live musical performances on two stages. The Christmas Parade begins at 5PM at the corner of Montague and Mixson Avenues, proceeds down Montague, around Park Circle, and concludes at Armory Park. Just prior to the start of the Christmas Parade, Mayor R. Keith Summey and Santa Claus will light the City’s Christmas tree located outside the front entrance of the Felix C. Davis Community Center.

Holiday Parade of Boats
December 13, 2014 
The 33rd Annual Holiday Parade of Boats will be held in Charleston Harbor on Saturday, December 13, 2014. You can participate in the parade by simply registering, decorating your boat from stem to stern with lights, and joining us on the water. Thousands of spectators view the parade along the route from Mt. Pleasant to Charleston each year. The parade begins at approximately 5PM near the Mt. Pleasant side and ends in the Ashley River at approximately 7:30PM. We say approximately, because of various factors, including wind, current, and the ability of the boats to maintain headway. Captains and crews will be invited to the Captain’s Party and Awards Ceremony at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place boats in both the power and sail categories, with the best-in-show award going to the highest scoring boat overall. West Farm Corn Maze

Join us for a walk through our very own West Farm themed (2.8 miles) corn maze. We have a smaller (.3 mile) corn maze in the shape of a pumpkin for our smallest visitors. We've once again included FSI: Farm Scene Investigation. Farmer Joe is missing. There was an accident, and it appears to be foul play. There are seven farm animal suspects that we need you to investigate. Collect the evidence to find the weapon and the location where the crime took place. You will find six location scenes within the corn maze. At each location you will find an animal and a tool to eliminate as a suspect and a weapon. Punch your card to keep track of your clues. rUNdead 5K: The Original Zombie Race in Charleston

The rUNdead 5K trail course winds and weaves through the woods, clearings, over bridges, across creeks and along the edges of ponds just before sunset. Those who choose to be RUNNERS must compete not only against the clock, but rugged terrain, low lighting and narrow pathways. Also, you’ll be running from and around ZOMBIES. Before, during and after the actual race there will be live entertainment, music, a costume contest, youth area, vendors, food, beer and an AFTERMATH party to die for. 2014 Lowcountry Jazz Festival

The 2014 Lowcountry Jazz Festival will open with soul singer Bobby Caldwell, a 30-year musical icon whose recent performance of “What You Won’t Do for Love” had everyone on their feet at the 2013 Soul Train Awards. Friday night’s show features multi-instrumentalist Brian Culbertson and the Smooth Side of Soul with saxophonist Najee. Jazz Attack, a collaboration of crowd-pleasing, chart-topping contemporary jazz musicians will headline Saturday night. Philadelphia’s jazzy R&B band Pieces of a Dream will open the show. Sunday starts with jazz pianist Alex Bugnon at the festival’s traditional brunch and concludes with one of the most successful instrumental artists of our time, Boney James. Still more artists are being confirmed for the festival as well as final plans for additional events and late night jam sessions. The festival, repeatedly named a Top 20 Event by the Southeast Tourism Society, draws thousands of jazz fans to Charleston and raises funds to benefit Closing the Gap in Health Care, Inc., an organization whose mission is to decrease health disparities among the underserved. In 1990, James reunited with his old friend, session drummer, producer, composer & recording artist Harvey Mason (Herbie Hancock, Barbra Streisand, Notorious B.I.G.), during the recording of James’ Grand Piano Canyon album. The Grand Piano Canyon sessions marked the genesis of the group that eventually came to be known as Fourplay. 24th Annual Sea and Sand Festival

Events begin the evening of the 11th with the first ever Sea and Sand Pageant which will be held at 7:30PM at the Folly River Park. The Street Party begins at 10AM Saturday morning on Center Street & goes until 5PM with live music on 2 stages by the best local bands Folly Beach has to offer. The modern genesis of Modern West began when Kevin’s wife, Christine, encouraged him to reconnect with his love of music. However, the history of the band goes back over 20 years when Kevin met John Coinman in a dirty, downtown warehouse in Los Angeles during an acting workshop. John was a musician with an intense interest in acting and Kevin was an actor with an intense interest in music. They became friends and began to play and write music together along with another friend, Blair Forward. That collaboration turned into the band Roving Boy – a rock band with an edgy Western style and a small record deal in Japan where they had a #1 single called “Simple Truth”. Catch The Leprechaun 5k
March 13, 2014
Catch the Leprechaun is a 5K run/walk held at the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. The race will feature a pot of gold for the men’s and women’s winners, a prize for runners who finish before the leprechaun and a post race ceremony featuring live music and refreshments. Proceeds from the event will benefit Pattison’s Academy for Comprehensive Education (PACE). At 6:10PM, the bagpiper will start playing. This is your signal to get ready to run as he will be leading the runners/walkers to the starting line shortly after the music begins.
Your race registration includes admission to the St Patrick's Day party. There will be food, drinks, beer (for anyone over 21) and live music.
